Popular crowdfunding platform, GoFundMe, which suspended an account for a movement set up by publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has restored the account barely 48hours after it was flagged down for suspicions reported about its activities.
Sowore, who is a Presidential hopeful in Nigeria’s 2019 election season, had set the page up to raise fund through public trust for the bid. He targets $2million dollars to execute the removal of old politicians from the political space of Nigeria.
Titled as #TakeBackNigeria Movement, Sowore’s page had attracted over $1,000 in the first hour it was opened and over $2,000 as at night-nigh within six hours of its opening. On the GoFundMe Platform, the page began to trend and added to popularity of the activity.
Sowore exposed moments after the page was suspended by the GoFundMe admin, that the page was reported by his rattled oppositions. He stated, specifically, that the adversaries were “apprentices” of the Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is said to also be jolted at the sudden popularity of budding movement.
Asides attracting funds from the trusting members of public, the GoFundMe platform was also drawing more popularity to Sowore’s 2019 Presidency, as more blogs began following and reporting activities and the organic, public funding-interest of the movement.
Although the fundraising platform had promised to review suspension of the page in 3 business days, Sowore however announced on Thursday that the GoFundMe admin had cleared and restored the page to continue to receive its donations from public, barely 48hours after it was suspended.
